Parents, Teachers & Professionals are Raving about this Book!

  • "But MOMMY, I can SEE! is a must-read for any parent. My daughter, who loves books, was instantly drawn to it. She enjoyed the story so much, and it sparked a wave of curiosity about how the eyes work. As someone whose entire family wears glasses, I found it to be a great reminder of the early signs of a vision problems that often go unnoticed. Dr. Slotnick has created something truly special -- educational, engating, and eye-opening. Highly recommended!"

Dr Slotnick has created such a fun and illustrative, yet educational book! Our world has quickly become digital-tech-centric, which has many benefits but not without negative effects to our vision. Nearsightedness (blurry distance vision), eyestrain, dry eye disease (and more) have skyrocketed with the increase in near viewing tasks especially with digital devices. This book illustrates how glasses for close-work can benefit kids with both problematic and good vision, and help preserve their good distance vision in our digital-tech-centric world.

Dr. Slotnick has taken a common scenario where parents and kids with good eyesight don’t always understand the functional purpose of the prescribed glasses beyond clear eyesight, and turned it into a a fun and educational story. I like how Dr. Slotnick included pictures of the doctor performing a few common eye tests on the main character Sylvia so that young readers can see that going to the eye doctor is not scary. For eye doctors, this is a great book and educational tool to have in the office for families to learn about common visual problems.

  • “Hi Dr. Slotnick! I had to write and tell you how much I loved your book about the girl using low plus lenses to relax her eyes during close work. My boys (5 and 7) were totally into the story, and we were all excited to read about someone else who used glasses like theirs! I use the same approach with my kids – having them wear plus lenses to relax their eyes when they’re doing homework or reading so that they don’t get nearsighted – so your book was so validating to read. It’s awesome to know someone else gets how important this is!

“You did such a great job making this concept fun and understandable for kids. What a brilliant way to get families thinking about vision care! So happy I decided to buy the book! Just wanted you to know how much the book meant to us. Thanks for writing it!”

What does it mean to "see"? And what can reading glasses do for a child who can "see" without them?

Join Sylvia on her journey with her glasses. It's love at first "sight," but when the excitement of the accessory wears off, how is she supposed to remember to use her glasses? Especially when she notices she can "see" without them?

Embedded within this engaging story are important insights for parents about the visual skills needed for learning in a classroom setting, and the subtle signs of visual problems which can be treated with glasses. Parents and children, alike, come away understanding the difference between "needing" glasses and "benefitting" from them as a powerful tool for learning and sustaining attention in the classroom.

If your child loves to learn, but doesn't love to read, chances are there is a visual problem which has not been addressed. "Find a Doctor" resources are provided to locate eye doctors who treat learning-related vision problems around the globe.
